چکیده
ADAMTS13 (a disintegrin-like and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type-1 motifs 13) has been shown to be of major pathophysiological importance for thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) in the setting of thrombocytic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) when either lacking (inherited TTP) or if antibodies against ADAMTS13 are present (acquired TTP). A potential pathophysiological role of ADAMTS13 has also been postulated in other diseases i.e. myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation and diabetic angiopathy. Recent data provides evidence, however, for a completely different role of ADAMTS13 in vascular physiology and pathophysiology. In the present issue of Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation, Bockmeyer et al. documented a physiological expression of ADAMTS13 in arteriolar Nephrol Dial Transplant (2011): Editorial Comments 1761 © The Author 2011. Early dysfunction of transplanted kidney revealed the cause of recurrent nephrolithiasis: a case report of primary hyperoxaluria
Primary hyperoxaluria (PH) disorder causes end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Missed diagnosis or relapse in transplanted kidney is common. We present a 36-year-old patient with a history of recurrent renal calculus which progressed to end-stage renal disease. He underwent kidney-transplant surgery. Renal function tests had worsening progressively at first-week post-transplant. Transplanted kidney...
متن کاملAldosterone Induces Oxidative Stress Via NADPH Oxidase and Downregulates the Endothelial NO Synthesase in Human Endothelial Cells
Aldosterone is traditionally viewed as a hormone regulating electrolyte and blood pressure homeostasis. Recent studies suggest that Aldo can cause microvascular damage, oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. However, its exact cellular mechanisms remain obscure. This study was undertaken to examine the effect of Aldo on superoxide production in human umbilical artery endothelial cel...
متن کاملSpironolactone Inhibits NADPH Oxidase-Mediated Oxidative Stress and Dysregulation of the Endothelial NO Synthase in Human Endothelial Cells
Accumulating evidence indicates that aldosterone plays a critical role in the mediation of oxidative stress and vascular damage. NADPH oxidase has been recognized as a major source of oxidative stress in vasculature. However, the relation between NADPH oxidase in aldosterone-mediated oxidative stress in endothelial cells remains to be ascertained. The present study aimed to investigate the rel...

متن کاملNADPH Oxidase as a Therapeutic Target for Oxalate Induced Injury in Kidneys
A major role of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase family of enzymes is to catalyze the production of superoxides and other reactive oxygen species (ROS). These ROS, in turn, play a key role as messengers in cell signal transduction and cell cycling, but when they are produced in excess they can lead to oxidative stress (OS). Oxidative stress in the kidneys is now c...
